The Theatre Department at Indiana University is interested in photorealistic rendering of stage and lighting situations. Using radiosity rendering techniques, indirect lighting can be modeled in the computer, and lighting situations can be designed before expensive (and time-consuming) stage sets are built. Eventually, the lighting designer will be able to specify (in a designer's language) lighting situations and the computer will not only be able to produce a rendering of what the scene will look like, but will also be able to position and control lights before and during a performance.
